Elpida makes Q1 loss, cuts capex 32%

Elpida, the No.3 DRAM producer, made an operating loss of $64m and a net loss of $101m in calendar Q1 and reckons the DRAM market has ‘bottomed out’ according to COO Yoshitaka Kinoshita.

For the company’s financial year to the end of March 2011 the company made an operating profit of $44m.

The company plans a 32% cut in capex this year to $98m which would be focussed on bringing up 30nm and 25nm production lines.

Elpida has said its supplies of raw silicon wafers from Sin-Etsu of Japan have been impacted following the earthquake.
