Qualcomm has agreed to acquire “substantially all of” the assets of Rapid Bridge, a California-based semiconductor developer which specialises in sea-of-transistors technology.
Rapid Bridge’s LiquidCell library was nominated as a finalist for last year’s EDN Innovation Awards.
Available at the 40nm process node, LiquidCell consists of a metal-programmable sea of transistors that can be configured into millions of usable elements from a library of over 700 standard cells.
Rapid Bridge’s San Diego design team and San Diego/Bangalore engineering services operations will be integrated into Qualcomm CDMA Technologies.
The asset acquisition, is subject to regulatory approval and fulfillment of certain terms and conditions, and is expected to close by the end of fiscal year 2011.
