Apple, which became the world’s biggest buyer of chips last year, will extend its lead over No.2 placed HP this year, according to iSuppli Last year Apple bought chips worth $17.5bn which was 80% more than it bought in 2009. This year it is expected to spend $22bn. HP is expected to spend $15bn. Apple spent 61% its semiconductor budget in 2010 on wireless products such as iPhones and iPads. In contrast, 82% HP’s 2010 semiconductor spending went on computers and servers. |
